I am a landscape artist working mainly in oil or heavy body acrylic on canvas and board. My main subjects are the waters edges of Northumberland and The Lake District. However, be prepared to see some wild-card subjects and differing medias occasionally.
Every now and then I'll set myself a project in photography, paint a still life, or a cityscape that captures my imagination. Exploring various subjects and handling different media keeps signature work fresh, and helps me to steer away from the artistic rut we could all fall into if constrained by too many self imposed boundaries.
I paint best when motivated by place or occasion, and readily confess the act of painting is sometimes quite a torturous affair. Consequently I can go for long periods without painting - never worried by the length of the time off task - secure in the knowledge I will soon be freshly invigorated by a view or a memory and resume in a flurry once more. I freely deploy extra romanticism or drama in the scene to convey my own experience of being there, whatever it takes to take the paintings' audience "there" too.
My real joy comes from watching you view the painting. I know when I've succeeded in transporting a paintings viewer to that different place. That makes the painting a true success in my opinion.
I began to show my work in 2004, when I moved away from interior design. I put an artistic toe in the water and there has been no looking back. I am a member of Network Northumberland Artists. Please check this site a link to the Network website for fellow members' and my own details.
I am fortunate others continue to enjoy my work. I urge you to see any original art work at first hand rather than on page or screen. Please use this site to check out the galleries, workshops, and events where my own work can be viewed first hand.
